Customize the navigation bar on Todoist for iOS and Android so the views, projects, filters, and labels you use most are always one tap away. Add tabs like Today, Upcoming, or your main project, rearrange them into the order you work in, and remove any you don’t need.
Any view added to a tab in the navigation bar is automatically removed from the Browse menu.
Add a tab
Beyond the default views, you can add any project, filter, or label as its own tab, including team projects and filters. Your navigation bar holds up to five tabs, including Browse, so the option to add one appears while you have fewer than five. You can remove tabs until you’re down to three.
- Tap Browse at the bottom-right.
- Tap the gear icon at the top-right.
- Select Navigation.
- Tap Add Tab. If your navigation bar is full, remove a tab first. Add Tab only appears when there’s an open slot.
- Tap a default view, or tap a section such as My Projects, your team, My Filters, or Labels to open it. You can also search.
- Tap the project, filter, or label you want. It’s added to your navigation bar right away.
- Tap Browse at the bottom-right.
- Tap the gear icon at the top-right.
- Select Navigation bar.
- Tap Add. If your navigation bar is full, remove a tab first. Add only appears when you have fewer than five tabs.
- Tap a default view, or tap a section such as My Projects, your team, My Filters, or Labels to open it. You can also search.
- Tap the project, filter, or label you want. It’s added to your navigation bar right away.
iPad doesn't have a navigation bar. To customize which views appear in the sidebar, see Customize the sidebar and navigation menu in Todoist. Any view not shown in the sidebar is still available by tapping More below your list of views.
When you add a tab, your options are grouped into sections:
- Default views, such as Inbox, Today, Upcoming, Search, and Filters & Labels
- Team (Teams on Android)
- My Projects
- Projects from your team, listed under your team’s name
- My Filters
- Filters from your team, listed under your team’s name
- Labels
Rearrange or remove tabs
- Tap Browse at the bottom-right.
- Tap the gear icon at the top-right.
- Select Navigation.
- Tap Edit at the top-right.
- Drag tabs by their handles to rearrange the order.
- Tap the minus icon next to the tab you want to remove.
- Tap Remove.
- Tap the checkmark icon to confirm your changes.
To swap a tab without removing it first, tap the tab you want to replace on the Navigation screen and choose something else from Select Tab.
- Tap Browse at the bottom-right.
- Tap the gear icon at the top-right.
- Select Navigation bar.
- Drag tabs by their handles to rearrange the order.
- Tap the three dots icon.
- Tap Select navigation item to swap the tab for a different view, or Remove to remove it.
To restore the default options, tap Restore defaults.
Rename a tab
When you add a project, filter, or label as a tab, the tab uses that item’s name and an icon that matches its type:
- Projects: project icon
- Filters: filter icon
- Labels: label icon
- Projects: project icon
- Filters: filter icon
- Labels: label icon
If the name is too long to fit, it’s shortened with an ellipsis. For example, a project named “General work stuff” shows as “General work…” in the tab.
To rename a tab, rename the project, filter, or label it’s linked to. The tab updates automatically.
Replace a deleted or archived tab
If you delete a project, filter, or label that’s in your navigation bar, or archive a project, its tab stays in the bar and is renamed Project, Filter, or Label. Open the tab to see that the item can’t be found, then tap Customize Tabs (Customize tabs on Android) to choose something else for that slot.
If you unarchive a project, its tab goes back to normal.
