When using Gmail, easily turn an email into a new Todoist task with one of our integrations. You’ve got two options: 

  1. The Todoist for Gmail” Chrome extension can be used to add emails as tasks from Google Chrome.
  2. The “Todoist for Gmail” G Suite add-on can be used to add tasks from Gmail for web, iOS, and Android.

Here's how to set up and use both integrations:

Setting up the extension

  1. Go to the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Search for Todoist for Gmail and select it.
  3. At the top right, click on Add to Chrome.
  4. In the pop-up window, select Add extension.

Using the extension

Adding tasks via Gmail

  1. Open the email you want to turn into a task.
  2. In the icons bar directly above the email, click on the Todoist icon.
  3. At the bottom right, a new task will be loaded into Todoist. The task will have the email title as its name, and it will link to the email.
  4. (Optional) Add any additional details about the task such as labels, a priority, a date or an assignee by using the quick add options.
  5. Click Add Task.

Opening emails via Todoist

Simply click on any task created via the extension to view the email in a browser window.

After you install the extension, you can also use Todoist from directly within Gmail by clicking the Todoist bar in the bottom right of Gmail. You'll have full access to Todoist so you can add, complete, view your tasks and more, all without having to open a new window.

Setting up the add-on

  1. Go to mail.google.com.
  2. In the panel to the right, click on the + symbol to open the G Suite Marketplace. (If the side panel is not visible, you can toggle it on by clicking the < button at the bottom right.)
  3. Search for Todoist for Gmail and select it.
  4. Click Install.
  5. Authorize the integration.
  6. Click Allow.

Using the add-on

Adding tasks via Gmail

  1. Open the email you want to add as a task.
  2. To the right, click on the Todoist icon.
  3. (Optional) Select which project you'd like to add the task to, edit the task's name, set a due date, or add a priority.
  4. Click Add task.

To use the “Todoist for Gmail” G Suite add-on, please use Gmail for web, iOS, or Android.

FAQ

Q: Can I use both the G Suite add-on and the Chrome extension?

A: Absolutely! Use whichever you prefer whenever you want.

Q: What's the difference between the Chrome extension and the G Suite add-on?

A: The main difference is that emails added as tasks via the Chrome extension can only be opened in a browser, while tasks added via the G Suite add-on allow you to open the linked email in Gmail for web, iOS and Android.

Q: Does the G Suite add-on also work on iPad?

A: No, this add-on is not supported on iPad.

Q: Can I add a due time for my task when using the G Suite add-on?

A: No, at this point, you can only pick the due dates available via the drop-down menu.

Q: How can I remove the Chrome extension?

A: To remove the Gmail Chrome extension, please follow Google's instructions on how to remove an extension.

Q: How can I remove the G Suite add-on?

A: If you no longer want to use the G Suite add-on, here's how to remove it:

  1. Go to mail.google.com.
  2. In the panel to the right, click on the Todoist icon.
  3. At the top right, click on the three dots icon.
  4. Select Manage add-on.
  5. Click on Todoist for Gmail.
  6. Click Uninstall.
