Use the calendar layout in Todoist

The calendar layout helps you and your team align on important dates and plan upcoming work. It's an ideal aid to avoid any scheduling conflicts and prevent team members from overcommitting.

Use the calendar layout in a project

When creating a new project, select Calendar in the Layout section.

Change the layout of a view or existing project

For now, the calendar layout isn't available in the Today view
  1. Open the view or project from the sidebar.
  2. Click View at the top-right.
  3. Select Calendar.
  • Click View again and select between Week and Month next to Layout.
  • Manual sorting isn't available for the calendar layout. Instead, tasks are sorted by default.
  • If you no longer need the calendar layout, switch to either the board or list layouts.

In the iOS app, you can use the 3-day calendar view.

  2. Tap the three dots icon and select View.
  3. Select Calendar.

An overview of seven days will appear with tasks listed under their due dates.

  • If you no longer need the calendar layout, switch to either the board or list layouts in the View menu. Then, tap Done.

  1. Click Filters & Labels in the sidebar.
  2. Select the filter or label you wish to apply the layout to.
  3. Click View in the top-right.
  4. Select Calendar.

Create a task in the calendar layout

  1. Click the day to schedule a task in the calendar.
  2. Enter the task name and add any task details.
  3. Click Add task.

  1. Drag the Dynamic Add button to the day to schedule a task.

  3. Tap the submit button.

Who says the week always starts on a Monday? Choose when your week starts in the General tab of your Todoist settings. This will automatically reflect in the calendar layout.

Schedule a task without a due date

  1. Open the project from the sidebar.
  2. Click No date at the top-right. A sidebar will expand and display tasks with no due dates.
  3. Drag the task to the appropriate date in the calendar to assign it as the due date.

    To use the scheduler instead, click the three dots icon beside the task and pick a date to assign it as a due date.

Drag the task to a different day in the calendar.

  1. Tap No Date at the top-right of the project.
  2. Select the task in the list. 
  3. Tap Schedule.
  4. Assign a due date.

When the calendar layout is applied to a shared project, all the people will see this layout when they access the project.

View future occurrences

By default, recurring tasks will only show the next upcoming occurrence. However, if you are a Todoist Pro or Business customer, and you've applied the calendar layout to the Upcoming view on your desktop, you'll be able to see all future occurrences of your recurring tasks.

To turn future occurrences on or off, click View at the top-right and toggle Future occurrences.

Future occurrences are not supported on mobile apps yet.
