If you regularly reuse a project structure with the same tasks, sections, due dates, and other task attributes in Todoist, try creating a new project template. You can add the template directly to a new or existing project from the template gallery.
Create a template
- Open the Todoist project you want to save as a template.
- Click the three dots icon at the top-right.
- Select Save as template.
- Add a template description, change the name, or change the color.
- Click Save. Your template is now saved in the templates gallery.

Use your template to create a new project
- Click the plus icon next to My Projects or your team name.
- Select Browse templates.
- Click the My templates tab.
- Click Copy to My Projects/[workspace name] to create a new project from the template.
- Tap Browse at the bottom-right.

- In My templates, select a template.

Add your template to an existing project
- Open the project in the sidebar.
- Click the three dots icon at the top-right.
- Select Apply my template.
- Select Browse my templates. If you just created a project template, it'll be in the Recently used list.
- Select a template in the My templates list.
- Click Import to project.
- Open a project.
- Tap the three dots icon in the top-right.
- Select Apply my template.
- Tap Browse my templates to view all your templates in the gallery.
- Select your template.
- Tap Import to project.
- Tap Confirm.
- Open a project.

Save your CSV template in the gallery
If you previously used CSV templates stored on your device, you can now upload them to the template gallery and have them ready to use on any device.
- Open the templates gallery.
- Click Upload template and select CSV files from your device. Or drag and drop files to import your data.
- Update the template name, color, and description.
- Click Save. Your template is now saved in the templates gallery.
CSV files can be uploaded only from the computer. Once uploaded, you will be able to access them on any device in the template gallery.
Share your template with the team
If you've joined a Todoist team, and you'd like to create and share a project template with others, you can do so directly inside your workspace.
All team project templates are stored inside the templates gallery under the Workspace section. You can change the permission settings directly in your workspace templates:
- Open the Todoist project you want to save as a template.
- Click the three dots icon at the top-right.
- Click Save as template.
- Add a description, change the name, or change the color.
- Click Save. Your template is now saved in your team section of the templates gallery.
- Click the share icon at the top-right and choose the permission settings.
- Click Copy link to share the template directly with another person in your team.
- Open the Todoist project that you want to save as a template.
- Tap the three dots icon at the top-right.
- Tap Save as Template.
- Tap the Preview tab to review your template.
- Tap the About tab to add a template description, change the name, or change the color.
- Scroll down and tap Access.
- Change the permission settings.
- Tap Save. Your template is now saved in the team section of the templates gallery.
Delete your template
- Click the Add icon next to your workspace in the sidebar.
- Select Browse templates. This opens the template gallery.

Is there a limit on how many project templates I can create?
You can create up to 100 project templates.
Can I edit my templates?
For now, you can only edit the template’s name and description. If you wish to edit the content of your template, you need to copy it to an empty project, edit the content, and save it as a new template.
Are my completed tasks saved when I create a project template?
No, only active tasks are saved in the project template.
Are task assignees saved when creating a project template?
Yes, tasks remain assigned to the same project collaborators. Make sure to add these users to the shared project before importing the template if you wish to keep tasks assigned to the same people.
How can I hide the Browse templates button in the sidebar?
Here’s how to hide it:
- Open Todoist Settings.
- Select the Sidebar tab.
- Deselect Browse templates.
- Click Update.
