If you downgrade from a paid plan to the Beginner plan, you'll lose access to certain features and revert to lower account limits. Here's what to expect when you downgrade your paid plan:
- You'll only have up to 5 active projects.
- You'll only have up to 3 custom filters.
- You'll have access to 7 days' worth of Reporting history.
- Todoist will no longer generate backups automatically, and you won’t be able to create new ones.

Usage limits and access to paid features
What happens to team projects when I downgrade from Business to Pro?
When you downgrade from Business to Pro, you can have up to 5 team projects. If you have more than 5 team projects when you downgrade, any team projects over the limit will become frozen (read-only).
Frozen team projects cannot be edited and you will not be able to add any new tasks to them. However, you can still view these projects, and you can delete or archive them.
To unfreeze a frozen team project, move it from your team to My Projects. Once moved, the project will become active again and you'll be able to edit it.
What if I am above the free project limit when I downgrade?
If you are above the free project limit when you downgrade, any project that goes above the free limit will become view-only projects.
A view-only project cannot be edited and you will not be able to add any new tasks to it. However, you can still delete or archive the project.
Which projects will become view-only?
Todoist will automatically make projects view-only according to the creation date.
For example, if you are on the Pro plan with 10 personal projects and you then downgrade to the Beginner plan (which has a limit of 5 personal projects), your 5 oldest projects will become view-only.
Can I choose which projects become view-only?
No, Todoist will automatically make projects view-only according to the creation date.
How can I tell which projects are view-only?
View-only projects will be marked with an exclamation mark icon in your sidebar. Furthermore, if you open a view-only project, you will see a banner which will identify it as a view-only project.
How do I regain full access to my view-only projects?
You can either upgrade to a paid plan or bring your account under the free project limit by archiving or deleting projects.
What if I am above the free filter limit when I downgrade?
On the Beginner plan, you can have up to 3 custom filters. When you downgrade, your filter data will be retained, however, you won’t be able to view the filter content until you upgrade to a paid subscription.
What happens to my access to paid features?
When you downgrade to the Beginner plan, all your task-related data will be retained, but you won’t be able to add or edit features like task duration, custom reminders, deadlines, and member roles (in workspaces). However, you will be able to remove them as long as the task is part of an active project that isn't view-only.
What happens to my Reporting history?
Once you downgrade, you'll be able to view your Reporting history for the past 7 days. All your Reporting history becomes available again as soon as you resubscribe.
Can I download my backups when I downgrade?
Backups will no longer be generated automatically, and you won’t be able to create new ones. You will still have access to up to 21 backups that were created before canceling.
If I'm sharing a project with another paid customer, what happens if one of us downgrades our plan?
This depends on your account:
- If you are the one downgrading, the project may become view-only for you (depending on how old the project is and how many projects you have in your account).
- If your collaborator downgrades their plan, and you remain on the paid plan, you'll still have full access to the project, while the project may become view-only for your collaborator. This will depend on how old the project is and how many projects they have in their account.
Will I still be able to see tasks from view-only projects in my filters?
Yes, these tasks will still be included in your filters.
Can I filter for view-only projects?
No, you won’t be able to specifically filter for view-only projects. That being said, you can see in your sidebar which projects are view-only.
Will I still receive reminders about tasks added to view-only projects?
Yes, you'll still receive reminders that were added before you downgraded your plan.
If I’m in a shared project that is view-only to me but not view-only to my collaborator, can I still get notifications from that project?
Yes. Seeing as your collaborator is using the project as an active project, they can still perform actions which you might get notifications for.
Business plan trials
If my team is on the Business plan trial, will I be able to create a second team?
Yes, you can create a second team while your first team is on the Business plan trial.
What happens to my Pro plan if I decide to set up a Business plan trial?
If you have paid for Pro and you start a Business plan trial before using your full Pro time, your remaining Pro time will be added as credit in our system. However, please note that this credit can only be used to pay for Pro subscriptions.
What happens if I cancel my Business plan before the trial is over?
Your team will stay on the Business plan trial until the trial period is finished.
How many trials can you have per team?
The same team can only go through one Business plan trial. If you set up a second team, you can start a new Business plan trial for it.
