Add the official Todoist plugin in ChatGPT to manage your tasks without leaving the conversation. Once it’s connected, ChatGPT can read, create, and update the tasks and projects in your Todoist account, so you can plan your week, capture ideas, or tidy your Inbox right in the chat.
Before you start
- You’ll need a ChatGPT account.
- You’ll need a Todoist account to sign in to.
Connect the Todoist plugin
- Open ChatGPT.
- Click Plugins in the sidebar.
- Search for Todoist. You'll see the Todoist plugin.
- Click the plus sign to connect the plugin. A window tab will open in your web browser.
- Log in to your Todoist account.
- Approve the requested permissions.
Once the plugin is set up, type /todoist in any ChatGPT conversation to bring it up. Describe what you want in plain language.
Use the Todoist plugin
Once connected, ChatGPT can work with your Todoist account in multiple ways, including:
- Read your tasks and projects.
- Create new tasks and projects.
- Update what’s already there, such as renaming a task, shifting its date, or moving it to another project.
Example prompts to try
Once you’re connected, plain language is enough to get things done.
| Category | Example prompts |
|---|---|
| Plan your day | What’s overdue across my projects? Suggest three tasks that I should tackle first. Pull everything due today and help me put it in a realistic order. |
| Capture quickly | Add “Email the venue about parking” to my Events project, due Thursday. Create a recurring task to review my goals on the first of every month. |
| Shape a project | Start a project called “Q3 launch” with sections for Research, Build, and Review. Move my unscheduled Marketing tasks into a “This month” section. |
| Tidy up | Find tasks with no date in my Work project and suggest deadlines. Rename my vague Inbox tasks into clear next actions. |
Privacy and data handling
Connecting the Todoist plugin means your data moves between Todoist and ChatGPT. On the Todoist side, the data is covered by Todoist’s privacy policy; once it reaches ChatGPT, it also falls under OpenAI’s privacy policy. In Todoist, open Settings > Integrations to review the permissions you’ve granted at any time.
Disconnect the Todoist plugin
If you no longer want to use the Todoist plugin in ChatGPT, here's how to remove it:
- From ChatGPT: open Settings > Plugins. Select Todoist, then click Disconnect.
- From Todoist: open Settings > Integrations. Select ChatGPT, then click Remove.
Troubleshoot the Todoist plugin
The OAuth window doesn’t open or keeps failing
Disable strict pop-up blockers for the sign-in flow, and try again.
Completed recurring tasks are missing
Recurring tasks don’t show up in your completed tasks. Completing one reschedules it to the next occurrence instead of marking it done, and Todoist records that in your activity log.
To see everything you finished, ask ChatGPT for the activity log by name:
- Name the activity log in your request, such as: Using my Todoist activity log, what did I complete yesterday?
- Give it a date or a range when you want a specific period, such as: Check my Todoist activity log and list everything I finished this week.
ChatGPT returns every completion in that period, recurring tasks included.
Your plan sets how much history is available. The Beginner plan keeps 7 days of activity, and Pro and Business keep your full history. You can browse the same history in Todoist reporting.
