You know the drill: a whiteboard’s worth of notes from Monday’s planning meeting, a PDF that landed in your inbox at 11pm, or the dog-eared notebook page you scribbled during your last call. Eventually it all has to become an actual task list – which usually means retyping every line by hand.
Task Capture Assist skips that part. Hand it whatever you’ve got – type it, paste it, or attach it – and it does the copy-paste-copy-paste for you. Now you can even guide it: attach an agenda and add “Only pull out the action items assigned to me,” for example. Review the results before anything lands in Todoist, and you’re done.

How it works
You’ve been able to scan text and files for tasks before – now it’s one combined flow, with instructions and a review step added.
Open Quick Add, hit the + button to open the More actions menu, and select Extract tasks…. From there, you can:
- Type or paste text.
- Attach or drop in an image, PDF, or text file.
- Combine a file with instructions about what Todoist should look for, or add extra tasks of your own on top.
Todoist will analyze your input and build an editable preview as it finds tasks. Check the results, select any task to make changes, remove anything you don’t need, or add another task manually. Nothing is added to Todoist until you’re happy with the list.

This experiment is available now to paid Experimentalists on web, desktop (v11357+), iOS (v26.8.21+) and Android (v12260+).
To access, make sure you have experimental features turned on in your settings. Then look for Extract tasks… in Quick Add’s More actions menu (behind the + button).

Give Task Capture Assist a try and, this time, try guiding it. Drop in the three-page brief nobody’s fully read and tell it to skip everything that’s not yours to do. Try the recipe you tore out of a magazine and see what it makes of the ingredient list. See how well it listens – and how close the preview gets before you hit confirm.
