Todoist Comms is a team communication app that works alongside Todoist. Your team discusses topics in threads, has quick conversations in chats, and turns decisions into Todoist tasks without leaving the discussion. Follow these steps to set up your team and start your first thread.

Choose between threads and chats
Todoist Comms has two places to talk:
- Threads: Discussions about a single topic, each with its own title. Threads live in channels, which you can set up for each team, project, or area of your business.
- Chats: Private conversations with one teammate or a small group, for quick back and forth.
Threads keep topics and context together, so people can stay informed and contribute on their own schedule without needing to follow a constant stream of messages. When a discussion reaches a decision, you can conclude the thread. Its history stays searchable, so it becomes knowledge your team can come back to.
Invite your team
Todoist Comms uses the same team as Todoist, so there’s no separate account to create. Your teammates are already there, and everyone’s role carries over.
To bring in someone new, click the team menu in the top-left and select Invite your team. You can invite people by email or share an invite link. You can also create groups to notify everyone on the same team at once.

Create a channel
Set up a channel for each team, project, or area of your business so related threads stay together. To create one, select New channel and fill in the details.
Start your first thread
Post a thread about something your team is already working on. When you create a thread, choose who to notify so the discussion only reaches the people who need it.
Everyone replies in the thread. Once your team reaches an outcome, conclude the thread so everyone knows the discussion is done.
Chat with teammates
Use chats for quick questions and conversations that don't need a thread. You can chat one-on-one or with a small group.
Turn discussions into tasks
When a discussion leads to work, turn it into a Todoist task without leaving Todoist Comms:
- Suggested tasks: Todoist Comms reads the thread and suggests tasks based on what people agreed to. Review each suggestion, edit it if needed, and add it to Todoist.
- Follow-up tasks: Create a task for yourself from a message so you remember to come back to it. The task is added to your Todoist Inbox and links back to the message.
Tasks created from a thread in the same team appear in the thread as task references. Each task reference shows the task's name, assignee, date, priority, and completion status, so everyone can see what came out of the discussion. You can also paste a link to an existing Todoist task into a thread to show it as a task reference. Learn more about using Todoist Comms with Todoist.
Catch up in your Inbox
The Inbox in Todoist Comms collects new activity from your threads in one place. Once you've caught up on a thread, clear it from your Inbox so only what still needs your attention is left.
Get the apps
Todoist Comms is available on the web and as an app for macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android, so you can keep up with your team on your computer and phone. Learn how to install the Todoist Comms apps.
Connect integrations
Connect Todoist Comms to AI assistants like Claude or ChatGPT with the Todoist Comms MCP server or CLI, or build your own integrations with the API and SDK. To find these options, go to Settings & members > Integrations. To post threads on a schedule, use Todoist Automations.
