Todoist Comms is currently in active development, and you’re one of the small group of teams trying it out before a wider release. Your feedback will help us shape and improve the product. This article covers what to expect, the limitations we know about, how we handle your data, and what happens when early access ends.
What to expect during early access
Where you can use Todoist Comms
Todoist Comms is available on the web and on all major desktop and mobile platforms. Learn how to install the Todoist Comms apps.
What early access means
Todoist Comms is still in development, so things change often and you’ll run into rough edges. We may add, change, or remove features while we work out what belongs in the product. Your feedback during this period shapes what Todoist Comms becomes.
A few things worth knowing before you start:
- Some features you would expect from a finished team communication app aren’t built yet
- The apps update frequently, so the interface may shift between phases
- We recommend keeping anything you can’t afford to lose somewhere other than Todoist Comms
Known limitations
A few features aren’t available in Todoist Comms yet:
- You can’t silence notifications on a schedule.
- There’s no user status to show when you’re away or off work.
- There are no built-in third-party integrations. You can use the API, MCP server, CLI, or SDK to build your own integrations and connect AI agents to your workflows. To find these options, go to Settings & members > Integrations.
- You can’t schedule threads. To post on a schedule, use Todoist Automations instead.
Known issues we’re working on
- Video attachments over 100 MB or longer than about a minute can fail to attach
- Searching from the sidebar may not find existing conversations until the sidebar finishes loading
We’re still improving sync. If something doesn’t look right, let us know as soon as possible.
How your data is handled
Where your messages live
Todoist Comms runs on Todoist’s own infrastructure. Messages and files are stored separately from Todoist tasks, on databases and storage dedicated to Todoist Comms. Files you attach are kept in private storage and served over links that expire, so an attachment link can’t be shared outside your workspace and stay valid.
For how Todoist handles your data in general, see our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Those documents govern Todoist Comms during early access.
What happens when you delete something
| What you delete | What happens |
|---|---|
| Your own message | Hidden from the conversation. The message isn’t erased from our systems. |
| A thread, channel, or conversation | Permanently deleted, along with its messages and attachments |
| Your workspace | Permanently deleted, including every message, thread, and attached file |
In a direct or group conversation, only the person who sent a message can delete it. In a thread, the person who wrote a comment and workspace admins can both delete it.
Closing your Todoist account doesn’t remove messages you’ve already posted in a shared workspace. Those stay visible to the other members until the workspace, channel, thread, or conversation containing them is deleted.
Export your data
Todoist Comms doesn’t have a built-in data export during early access, but your data is accessible through the Todoist Comms API. If you need a copy of something, save it before the workspace is deleted.
What happens when early access ends
Todoist Comms comes with your team workspace at no extra cost. On the Starter plan, threads, comments, and chats show one month of recent history, and the Business plan includes your full history. Your messages stay in your Todoist workspace, and we’ll let you know before anything changes about your access. If you have questions about what happens to your workspace after early access, get in touch and we’ll answer directly.
