When you’re planning a project with too many tasks to handle at once, break it down into sections and take it on in parts.

Add a section to your project

  1. At the top right of a project, click the web_three-dots.svg three dots icon.
  2. Select Add Section.
  3. Type the name of your section and click Add Section.
Create a section directly above or below an existing section by hovering your mouse in between sections and clicking the Add section line that appears.Web___Section_Menu___Snippet.png

  2. Type the name of your section and click Save.

  2. Select Add Section.
  3. Type the name of your section and tap the android_send.svg submit icon.

  2. Select Add Section.
  3. Type the name of your section and tap the ios_submit.svg submit icon.

Add tasks to a section

Keep your projects organized by adding tasks to your sections.

Add a new task to a section

  1. To the right of a section, click the web_three-dots.svg three dots icon.
  2. Select Add task.
  3. Type the name of your task and add any details.
  4. Click Add Task to create your task.

Add an existing task to a section

If the task is in the same project, simply drag and drop it into the expanded section.

It’s not possible to drag and drop tasks to collapsed sections. However, we will support this in a future update.

If the task isn't in the same project as the section:

  1. Right-click on the task.
  2. Select Move to project.
  3. Click on the project and select the section to move the task to it.

  2. Select Add task.
  3. Type the name of your task and add any details.
  4. Click Add to create your task.

Add an existing task to a section

If the task is in the same project, simply drag and drop it into the expanded section.

It’s not possible to drag and drop tasks to collapsed sections. However, we will support this in a future update.

  2. Select Move to project.
  3. Click on the project and select the section to move the task to it.

  2. Type the name of your task and add any details.
  3. Tap the android_submit.svg submit icon to create your task.

Add an existing task to a section

  1. Tap on the task to open the task view.
  2. Tap the android_three-dots-icon.svgthree dots icon.
  3. Select Move task.
  4. Tap Project and select the project to which the section belongs.
  5. Tap Parent and select the section to move the task to.
  6. Tap anywhere outside of the Move task modal to save your changes.

  2. Type the name of your task and add any details.
  3. Tap the ios_submit.svg submit icon to create your task.

Add an existing task to a section

  1. Tap on the task to open the task view.
  2. Tap the ios_three-dots.svg three dots icon.
  3. Select Move task.
  4. Select the project to which the section belongs.
  5. Select the section to move the task to.
  6. At the top right, tap Move.

FAQ

Q: What is the section limit of a project?

A: You can create up to 20 sections per project.

Q: What happens when I move my section to another project? 

A: When you move a section to another project, all its tasks will be moved with it.

Q: Will sections show up in search results?

A: No, for now, only tasks and comments show up in search results. We may support search for sections in the future.

Q: Can I include sections in my filters?

A: No, it’s not possible to filter for sections.

Q: Can I add labels, due times, or comments to my sections?

A: No, these details can only be added to tasks.

Q: Can I assign a section to another user?

A: No, sections can’t be assigned to other users.

Q: Can I view completed tasks within a section?

A: Absolutely. Whenever you view your completed tasks, you can see which tasks have been completed in a section.

Q: When I uncomplete a task will it stay in its section?

A: Yes, tasks will always remain in the section they were completed in. The only way to move a task to a different section is the uncomplete it first and then move it.

Q: Is there a way to add a task to a section in a project using Quick Add?

A: No, it’s not possible to Quick Add tasks to a section.

Q: Is there a symbol I can use to add a task directly to a section, similar to # for projects?

A: No, for now it’s only possible to add a task directly to a section by following the steps above or by using the Dynamic Add Button on mobile devices.
