Manage a task with task view

To keep track of your tasks effectively, you need to pay attention to all the details. So when a task has a due date, project, priority, label, set of sub-tasks, comments and more, it’s handy to manage everything in one place.

Task view lets you do just that – here’s how it works:

To access the task view, click on the web_task-view.svg information icon to the right of a task. In this view, you can:

  • Go to the task’s project by clicking the project name. (If you’re viewing a sub-task, you’ll see its parent task here instead. Click on the parent task’s name to open it in the task view)
  • Edit the task by clicking on the task’s name
  • Set a due date (and time) by clicking Schedule
  • Assign the task by clicking Assign
  • Move the task to a different project via the web_project.svg projects icon
  • Add labels via the web_label.svg label icon
  • Add and view reminders via the web_reminder.svg alarm clock icon
  • Set the priority via the web_flag-outline.svg flag icon
  • Archive the task via the web_three-dots.svg three dots icon → Archive task
  • Get the email address of a task to forward emails to it via  theweb_three-dots.svg three dots icon → Add comments via email
  • Get the link to the task via the web_three-dots.svg three dots icon → Copy link to task
  • Show the task's completed sub-tasks via the web_three-dots.svg three dots icon → Show completed sub-tasks
  • Delete the task via the web_three-dots.svg three dots icon → Delete  task
  • View, edit, and add sub-tasks in the Sub-tasks tab
  • Open the task view for a sub-task by clicking on the web_comment-outline.svg speech bubble icon to the right of its name
  • View and add comments in the Comments tab
  • View the task’s activity in the Activity tab
  • View who created the task and when it was created at the top of the Activity tab

To access the task view, simply click on a task. In this view, you can:

  • Go to the task’s project by clicking the project name. (If you’re viewing a sub-task, you’ll see its parent task here instead. Click on the parent task’s name to open it in the task view)
  • Edit the task by clicking on the task’s name. (When your task name is a link, you can edit it via the three dots icon → Edit)
  • Set a due date (and time) by clicking Schedule
  • Assign the task by clicking Assign
  • Move the task to a different project via the win10_project.svg projects icon
  • Add labels via the win10_label-outline.svg label icon
  • Add and view reminders via the win10_reminder.svg alarm clock icon
  • Set the priority via the win10_flag-outline.svg flag icon
  • Archive the task via the win10_three_dots.svg three dots icon → Archive
  • Delete the task via the win10_three_dots.svg three dots icon → Delete task
  • Get the link to the task via the win10_three_dots.svg three dots icon → win10_three_dots.svg More → Copy link to task
  • Pin the task to the Start menu via the win10_three_dots.svg three dots icon → win10_three_dots.svg More → Pin to Start
  • Open the task’s comments in a separate window via the win10_three_dots.svg three dots icon → win10_three_dots.svg More → Pop out comments
  • View, edit, and add sub-tasks in the Sub-tasks tab
  • Open the task view for a sub-task by clicking on it
  • View and add comments in the Comments tab
  • View the task’s activity in the Activity tab
  • View who created the task and when it was created at the top of the Activity tab

  • Show the task's completed sub-tasks via the ios_three-dots.svg three dots icon → Show Completed Sub-tasks
  • View the task’s activity via the ios_three-dots.svg three dots icon → Activity log
  • Delete the task via the ios_three-dots.svg three dots icon → Delete task
  • View and add sub-tasks below Sub-tasks
  • Open the task view for a sub-task by tapping on it

  • View and add sub-tasks below Sub-tasks
  • Open the task view for a sub-task by tapping on it
Only Premium and Business users can add comments, upload files, and view the activity log.

FAQ

Q: Can I edit or delete an entry from the Activity tab in the task details view?

A: No, it’s not possible to edit or delete any items from the activity log.

Q: Can I edit a completed task in the task view?

A: No, the task will need to be uncompleted before you can make any changes to it.

Q: Is it possible to reorder sub-tasks in the task view?

A: For now, it's only possible to reorder sub-tasks in the task view on Web, macOS, Windows (legacy), and Windows 10. We're looking into making this available on iOS and Android in the future.

Q: Can I add comments via the task view if I’m on the free plan?

A: If you’re on the free plan, you can only add comments to tasks in shared projects. Adding attachments and adding comments to tasks in private projects is only possible for users on the Premium or Business plan. 

Q: I’m on the free plan, can I view the activity log?

A: No, the activity log is only available to users on the Premium or Business plan.
