On mobile devices, use the Dynamic Add button to create a task, sub-task, or section in Todoist. Touch and drag the button anywhere in projects, the Today view, or the Upcoming view. Drop it where you want the new item to go. On Android, you can also change where the Dynamic Add button appears.
The Dynamic Add button doesn't create a project, filter, or label. It only works if a project or view uses the list layout and if there aren't any applied sorting or grouping options.
Add a task in the Today, Upcoming, or project views
- Touch and drag the Dynamic Add button to where you want to create the new task.
- Enter the task name and add any details.
- Tap the submit button to save the task.
- Touch and drag the Dynamic Add button to where you want to create the new task.

Add a sub-task
To create a sub-task, the project must use the list layout.
- Touch and drag the Dynamic Add button below the parent task.
- Move it slightly to the right of the list.
Add a section to a project
- Touch and drag the Dynamic Add button in any direction. A section icon appears at the bottom-left of the screen.
- Drag the Dynamic Add button over the section icon.
- Enter the name of the new section.
- Tap the submit button to save the section.
- Touch and drag the Dynamic Add button all the way to the left of the screen.
- Drop it between sections or below an existing section. You’ll see “Add section” when you’ve moved it to a place where a section can be created.
- Enter the section name.
- Tap the submit button to save the section.
Change the Dynamic Add button placement
On Android, you can change where the Dynamic Add button appears on your screen.
- Tap Browse in the bottom-right.
- Tap the gear icon in the top-right.
- Select Navigation bar.
- Select Left, Center, or Right under Dynamic add button placement.
