Context menus were introduced by Apple in iOS 13 as a way to make it easier and quicker for users to edit items. All you have to do is long press an item on your iOS device and several quick actions will pop-up.

Here’s an overview of all context menus we’ve introduced in the Todoist iOS app:

Tasks

Long press the task you wish to edit in order to open the context menu. A menu will pop-up with the following options:

  • Select Task lets you select either a single task or multiple tasks for editing.
  • Schedule opens a schedule window where you can set a due date and time for your task.
  • Move to... lets you move your task to another project and/or section.
  • Priority lets you set the priority level for your task.
  • Assign lets you assign the task to yourself or a collaborator (this option only appears in shared projects).
  • Duplicate Task creates a duplicate of the selected task.
  • Copy Link to Task copies the task’s link to your clipboard.
  • Delete Task deletes the selected task.

Projects

Long press the project you wish to edit in order to open the context menu. A menu will pop-up with the following options:

  • Edit Project lets you edit your project’s name and color.
  • Share Project lets you add collaborators to your project or remove current collaborators.
  • Duplicate Project lets you create a copy of the project.
  • Add to Favorites lets you add the project to your Favorites. If the project’s already added to your Favorites, you’ll see Remove from Favorites instead.
  • Leave Project lets you leave the project.
  • Archive Project moves the project to your archive.

Labels

Long press the label you wish to edit in order to open the context menu. A menu will pop-up with the following options:

  • Edit Label opens a window where you can edit your label’s name and color.
  • Add to Favorites lets you add the label to your Favorites. If the label's already added to your Favorites, you’ll see Remove from Favorites instead.
  • Delete Label deletes the selected label.

Filters

Long press the filter you wish to edit in order to open the context menu. A menu will pop-up with the following options:

  • Edit Filter opens a window where you can edit the filter’s name and color, as well as its filter query.
  • Add to Favorites lets you add the filter to your Favorites. If the filter's already added to your Favorites, you’ll see Remove from Favorites instead.
  • Delete Filter deletes the selected filter.
If you're using a mouse or a trackpad with an iPad (with software version iPadOS 13.4 or above), you can also open a context menu by right-clicking on a task, project, label or filter.

FAQ

I want to move a task, project, label or filter by dragging and dropping it, but the context menu keeps popping up. What should I do?

Context menus are a bit sensitive and can pop up a bit too easily. Unfortunately, this is a limitation created by Apple and it can impact all iOS apps that use context menus. Hopefully, Apple will implement a fix for this in the future. Until then, when you press an item that you wish to move and the context menu pops up, move the item slightly to the right. This should close the context menu and make it possible for you to move the item.
