Boards are a powerful new way to organize and visualize your Todoist projects. From weekly meal plans to five-year business strategies, Boards make it easy to get a bird's-eye view of your projects and make progress from start to finish.

You can easily drag and drop tasks wherever you need them, add and rearrange sections as you like, and get a perfect view of the work you need to do.

Board view is not currently available in the Windows 10 app. Sorry!

Each section in a project is displayed as a separate column with tasks shown as cards. Tasks that don’t belong to any section appear in the first default column with the “No Section” title.

You can easily switch between a Board and a regular list, here’s how:

How to enable Board view

  1. From the left-hand menu, open any project.
  2. Click the three dots icon in the top right-hand corner.
  3. Select View as board.
  4. When creating/editing a project, you can enable Board view for it right away by selecting Board under the View option.

You can also use the Shift + v shortcut to quickly switch between the board and list views.

How to create a new section in Board view

  1. Scroll through your existing sections to the far right and click the Add Section button, or simply press the s key to add a new section to the end. Alternatively, hover between existing sections and click the Add Section button to add a new section in that spot.
  2. Type your section name.
  3. Click Add Section or press Enter to save.

How to reorder sections in Board view

  1. Hover over a section title.
  2. Drag and drop your section to a new position in a project.
  1. Long press a section name to activate the Reorder Section menu. Alternatively, tap the three dots icon next to a section title and select Reorder Section.
  2. Drag and drop sections in the order you need. It will be applied right away.

How to create tasks in Board view

  1. Click the +Add task button in a section where you would like your task to be, or use Quick Add by clicking the + icon in the top-right corner. Alternatively, you can press the a key to add a new task to the first available column.
  2. Type your task name and apply any parameters (e.g. a due date, priority, label etc.). You can also use the / shortcut to add a task to a specific section from anywhere.
  3. Click the Add Task button to save your new task.

FAQ

Q: Can I apply Board view to my filters?

A: Board view is currently only available for projects and not for filtered views.

Q: When I change the view, does it change for my teammates in a shared project?

A: Yes, the selected view is synced between project members. If someone switches to a different view, it will switch for everyone else in a project.

Q: When I move tasks around on my board, does it sync to other collaborators?

A: Yes, any changes you make in Board view are synced between all project members just like in a regular list view.

Q: How can I reorder sub-tasks in Board view?

A: At this time you can’t reorder sub-tasks right from Board view. We hope to bring this option later on. In the meantime, you can tap/click a task to open task view and then re-order the sub-tasks there.

Q: Can I access completed tasks in Board View?

A: Yes, you can see completed tasks the same way as you access them in the list view.

Q: Is it possible to select multiple tasks in Board view?

A: No, it’s not currently possible to multi-select tasks in Board view. We may add this option later on.

Q: Can I print in a board layout?

It’s not currently possible. When printing in Board view, your project will be automatically rendered as a list. We may implement a board layout for printing in the future.
